Demo patch 0.20.18.x: controller L/R fix + known issues (official, 2026-10-23)

Demo Alpha 0.20.18.x Confirms L/R menu fix vs 0.20.17.x known issue; language workaround; experimental keyboard menus; not Observed hands-on.

Why this page exists#

The 2026-10-22 guide EA Day-1 expectations and Demo carry-over still lists Alpha Demo 0.20.17.x and keeps controller L/R buttons in some tabs and menus as a Confirmed open known issue. That row is the 2026-10-19 patch note. This page does not rewrite it.

On 2026-10-22 at 18:35:45 UTC the Steam news feed for App 2295170 posted Demo - Patch Notes (gid 1847286114033847, author field Mirabolante). The body labels the patch Demo Alpha 0.20.18.x and says the controller L/R bug in some menus was fixed. Asia/Shanghai date for that timestamp is 2026-10-23. This page grades the note. It does not record an Observed controller test.

Evidence grades#

A studio sentence can be Confirmed and still leave the matching in-game result Unknown.

Grade of that sentenceConfirmed as an open known issue in the older noteConfirmed as a stated fix in the newer note
This site pressed L/R in those menusUnknownUnknown (not Observed)

The sentences are not the same scope line. The older note says "some systems" and "some tabs and menus". The newer note says "shoulder buttons" and "some menus". This page does not turn that into an Observed "fixed on every screen" claim.

Button-level remap notes stay on the controller and Steam Input FAQ. Deck Verified and offline boot stay on Offline play and Steam Deck Verified expectations.

The version label is not a Steam build id#

Demo Alpha 0.20.18.x is the label printed in the patch note. It is not a Steam client build id. The note does not publish a build id. If the client does not show one, that cell stays Unknown. The number 1847286114033847 is the Steam news gid, not a build id.

text
Until we have a final fix, you can work around this by going to "AppData\\LocalLow\\CygnusCross\\Emberville\\Saves\\" and deleting the file "options.eopt"
This should fix the issue, as it'll return the game to default configurations
Deleting only this file does not erase your save. But please be careful not to delete anything else in this folder.

The contents string stores each Windows separator as two backslash characters. The file the note names is options.eopt. Read the doubled separators as the Windows path AppData\LocalLow\CygnusCross\Emberville\Saves\.

Workaround claimGrade
The note names file options.eopt in that Saves folderConfirmed
Deleting only that file does not erase the saveConfirmed as the note's sentence

If you follow the note, delete only options.eopt. The note says not to delete anything else in that folder.

Frequently asked questions

Did Demo Alpha 0.20.18.x fix the L/R buttons listed as a known issue on 0.20.17.x?

The 2026-10-22 Steam note says it fixed a bug that prevented controller L/R shoulder buttons from working properly in some menus. The 2026-10-19 note had listed L/R in some tabs and menus as an open known issue. Both sentences are Confirmed as note text. This site has not Observed the buttons in-game, so the hands-on result stays Unknown.

Is Demo Alpha 0.20.18.x a Steam build id?

No. It is the version label printed in the patch note. The Steam news gid 1847286114033847 is also not a build id. If the client does not show a build id, leave that cell Unknown.

Does deleting options.eopt erase the Demo save?

The note says deleting only options.eopt returns default configurations and does not erase the save, and it says not to delete anything else in that folder. That sentence is Confirmed as note text. This site has not Observed the delete. The printed path is a Windows AppData LocalLow path, so Deck or other installs stay Unknown.

Is keyboard-only menu navigation finished?

No. The note calls it experimental, says it is not final, and says it may present bugs. Which keys work is Unknown here. This site has not Observed a keyboard-only menu pass.

Should the 2026-10-22 carry-over page be ignored?

No. That page still records the Alpha Demo 0.20.17.x known-issue row and the Early Access news from 2026-10-19. This page adds the later Demo patch grade and does not rewrite the older guide.
